Is Blogging Dead?

Is Blogging Dead?

Is blogging dead? This is an inevitable question which comes up time and time again every year but the swift answer is NO!

Blogging is absolutely still relevant in 2022!

However, the practice of blogging is everchanging and getting your blogs seen by an audience may be harder than ever.

Blogging is still a totally viable digital marketing strategy in 2022 and beyond, which is why we are going to share with you our 5 top tips on how to ensure your blog can thrive in 2022…

Share Your Blogs

Whilst blogging will primarily occur on your website, other platforms can grow your audience and create more engagement with your blogs.

Platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and others can drastically improve your popularity. Which platform you choose will depend on your content and your audience. If your content is formal and business-focused then LinkedIn will be the spot for you, whereas if you write informal and chatty stories or guides then YouTube could be your friend.

The best way to share your content to these sites is through repurposing.

Repurposing is the act of using content you already have and creating something new with it.

You can repurpose your content by:

  • Creating a video: This could be of yourself talking about your content or an infographic video showing a how-to guide.
  • Social media posts: If you have written a blog then you will have lots of written content ready and available. Use a website like Canva to create visually appealing text posts using the most important parts of your content. Use more content to create an appealing caption and link out to your blog.

If you are not confident appearing visually in person, don’t worry! You can create videos and social media posts anonymously without your face or, if you are posting as a business, you can find another employee who is willing to be involved!

In 2022, your blog will not be found as easily as in the past therefore you need to make yourself stand out more especially when you are just getting started.

Create Visual Content

People love visual content and it is a great addition to your blogs to keep your audience engaged.

When most people find your blog, they will not have searched for your website specifically and have no prior connection to your blog. This means that you need to keep them interested and engaged from the outset.

Using videos and images, you can break up your text into more manageable chunks and brighten up your page.

When including images on your page, you need to include ‘Alt Text’. For those of you who do not know that that is, alt text is the writing which will be displayed in place of an image if the image fails to load or to help visually impaired users.

Your alt text should describe the image clearly and in detail for your audience.

Update Old Content

If you have had a blog for a period of time then it is common to have old content which may now be out of date or in need of a refresh.

Taking time to update this content can be just as useful as creating new content. As you create blogs, you will learn skills, develop your writing style and the world will change.

Giving your blogs a (metaphorical) facelift can be all you need, here are a few tips to look out for in your old blogs:

  • Outdated statistics. If you have outdated statistics from years ago then your audience will presume the rest of the content is outdated. Make sure to update your statistics often even if this means that you need to update the rest of the content of the blog.
  • Broken links. If your blog links out to other sources, websites, brands or products then you should check that these are all functioning and in use. If any of your links are broken then you should change these. Search for other links that can serve the same purpose to avoid reader disappointment.
  • Outdated strategies. If your blog is business-related or notes the best practices in an industry then it is important that this is current and accurate information.

Use Email Marketing to Promote Your Blog

Once your blog is reaching an audience, you need a way to keep them connected and engaged with your blogs even when they aren’t reading them.

Creating an email marketing strategy for your readers and attaching a  button/link to your blogs ensures they can be notified every time you post a new blog.

Using a platform such as Mailerlite allows you to easily create email campaigns with a drag-and-drop editor. This means that you can create your own emails even with no prior experience or knowledge.

The main items you should include in your emails are:

  • A catchy title
  • An intriguing subject line
  • CTA’s. These can be in the form of links in the text or interactive buttons
  • High-quality images

Make Your Website User-Friendly

So far, all of our tips have been directed towards the content of your blog and sharing it with new audiences however this tip is regarding your website.

Having amazing content is great however you need your readers to be able to access your blog easily.

How many times have you been on a website and immediately left because it was taking too long to load? Or because on your mobile phone, the text and images didn’t fit on your screen properly?

Most readers are now searching on their mobile which means that your blog not only needs to be optimised on desktops, but also for phones. Below are a few things to consider when making your website user-friendly:

  • Ensure quick loading times
  • Simple website navigation
  • Display social media icons
  • Use a chatbot
  • Use high-quality images

So, is blogging dead? No! By using these 5 tips, you can keep your blog relevant and thriving in 2022.

What is Digital Marketing?

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing. It’s one of those phrases which gets said often but most people don’t really know what it means. Is it the latest viral Stranger Things meme or is it those helpful online guides telling you everything from cooking to cats?

Well, I can tell you this…it can be both! Now, not every business will need guides and not all businesses fancy a spicy meme but what does your business want?

Digital marketing which can also be called online marketing is a phrase referring to all marketing efforts that take place on the internet.

It can cover many forms such as social media (yes, that can include a good meme) to email marketing, website SEO and strategy. In practice, any marketing which uses electronic devices is digital marketing.

Digital marketing is usually compared to ‘tradition marketing’ methods which are not found on the internet, this could include billboards and flyers. There are differences between digital marketing and traditional marketing, other than the obvious which we will cover later.

Read on to find out about the different types of digital marketing, what the difference is between digital marketing and traditional marketing, and how digital marketing can benefit your business…

Types of Digital Marketing

As previously mentioned, there are many different forms of digital marketing to ensure that you can reach all audiences depending on your marketing needs. Many people will use multiple, if not all, of these types of digital marketing on their business journey, so let’s take a closer look:

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation, also known as SEO, is the way in which you can get your website found online. By improving and optimising your SEO you can drive more traffic to your website and therefore generate more sales (no one’s going to be complaining about that!).

SEO includes many factors which you need to consider including:

  • Mobile-friendliness
  • Keywords
  • Backlinks
  • Meta descriptions
  • Headings

The main reason is to rank higher on Google, the algorithm is like a living organism which is always changing which makes it important to monitor the success of your website and make SEO changes accordingly. Click here if you want to find out your SEO ranking now.

Content Marketing

We love creating articles (blogs), posts, quotes, and top-notch content to deliver to your audience through your website, email campaigns, and social media.

Did you know that 90% of digital marketers who used content marketing in 2021 have continued to invest the same amount in 2022?

Content marketing and SEO go hand in hand, with SEO perfectly complementing your content. Using these forms of digital marketing in sync will ensure that your content reaches the right people and your ideal clients.

Email Marketing

Email has been with us for some time, but do not underestimate the power and reach of regular email marketing campaigns.

With current digital technology, you can make your email marketing campaigns completely unique to your business and reach your clients in their own inboxes.

Small business? Try including your customers’ names in the subject line to make it personable.

Quirky brand? Don’t be afraid of emojis and puns!

When in doubt, play on current events! Here in the UK, we have just dealt with a heatwave turning sunbathing into sun-baking! Use current affairs in your email and subject line to intrigue your customers.

One of our last email campaigns which got our HIGHEST open rate was titled “DO YOU HAVE TOO MANY POINTS OF ENTRY? 😉”

Email marketing software allows you to create personalised marketing campaigns which then can automatically be sent to your mailing list/s and then will collect analytics such as the open rate. Many websites, such as Mailerlite,  are drag-and-drop editors which means you can create interesting emails without having technical knowledge!

Social Media Marketing

Today, social media is used by the majority of the population and most businesses for good reason. Social media marketing is the way in which you can drive traffic and build brand awareness by engaging your audience online.

The main social media platforms which businesses should utilise, depending on your specific audience, are:

  • TikTok
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest

Social media marketing is becoming more popular every day with it being the most popular form of B2C marketing at 96%! Social media marketing involves audience participation and is therefore a great way to connect with your audience through posts, videos and even MEMES. Depending on your targeted platform, many have built-in engagement metrics which allow you to track how well your business is performing.

Your main goal of social media marketing may not to create a direct impulse purchase. If your target audience is older or if your product/service is not appropriate for impulse purchases then you may focus on building a community, starting the dialogue and being informative.

Pay-per-click Marketing (PPC)

PPC marketing is when you post an ad on a platform (such as social media) and pay every time someone clicks on it.

The complicated part is how and when people see your ad. On Google, for example, the algorithm will prioritise ad slots based on many factors such as ad quality, keyword relevance and page quality.

PPC campaigns are built towards goal conversions such as signing up for a newsletter or making a call. You can choose your target goal conversions which you can then track to see how well your campaign is performing.

What is the Difference between Digital Marketing and Traditional Marketing?

Digital marketing and traditional marketing are both valid forms of marketing, but they serve different purposes.

Traditional marketing focuses on media such as magazines and newspapers whereas digital marketing looks at websites and social media. Some businesses utilise both forms of marketing, but it often depends on your business.

Digital marketing has overtaken traditional marketing in effectiveness and cost so let’s take a deeper dive into the benefits of digital marketing…

Benefits of Digital Marketing

It is no secret that digital marketing is becoming more and more popular in this technological age. People are using the internet more and more often so it only makes sense that your marketing should take place there too.

Making the switch to digital marketing over traditional methods can be scary, especially if you have a tried and tested method which is no longer working the same so let us tell you a few of the many benefits of digital marketing:

  • Broad reach. Think of posting a flyer through a door, that piece of information is only able to be viewed by the people in that house. Now imagine posting an ad on Facebook using the same information, which is going to be seen by more people? Marketing your business digitally also enables your customers to share your business with others with ease. If you know your business relies on referrals, then digital is the way to go.
  • Measurable results. One way in which digital marketing excels over traditional marketing is that you can measure digital marketing. You can view how many people open your email campaign, how many people purchased your product on any given day, where people have landed on your website and more. This allows you to change your marketing strategy as and when you need to so that you get maximum results.
  • Personalisation. You can’t personalise a billboard but you can personalise an email campaign! No matter the size of your business, you want your customers to feel important and valued and the best way to do this is through personalisation. Simply including your customer’s name in an email campaign shows that thought has gone into that content to tailor it to that audience.

Blogging with WordPress

Blogging with WordPress

Do you want to start a blog? Blogging with WordPress is great but it can be scary to start especially if you are not technically minded. Don’t worry, you aren’t alone, and many people have the same fear, but it can be so simple.

If you want to start a blog, then we would recommend using WordPress. No scary coding or jargon here. Whether you are a beginner or a blogging aficionado looking for a new platform, WordPress can be as simple or complicated as you would like to make it.

Keep reading to find out more about WordPress, tips on how to write a blog and how to upload your very own blog!

What is WordPress?

WordPress is the simplest, most popular way to create your own website or blog!

Yes, really! In fact, WordPress powers over 43.3% of all the websites on the Internet. That means that more than one in four websites that you visit are likely powered by WordPress.

The best thing about it is that WordPress makes building a website accessible to anyone – even people who aren’t developers.

You can use WordPress to make all kinds of websites and blogs. You may primarily want to start blogging with WordPress, but if you are a business owner then you can also create:

  • Business websites
  • eCommerce stores
  • Blogs
  • Portfolios
  • Social networks
  • Membership sites
  • …and pretty much anything else you are looking for!

There are two forms of WordPress which you need to know the difference between.

  • WordPress.org, which is commonly called self-hosted WordPress, is the free, open-source WordPress software that you can install on your own web host to create a website that’s 100% yours.
  • WordPress.com is a for-profit, paid service that is powered by the WordPress.org software. It’s simple to use, but you don’t have as much flexibility in comparison.

When discussing WordPress, people usually refer to the self-hosted WordPress and if you would like to truly own your own website then it will be the best option for you.

Setting Up Your Blog

Firstly, before you can start blogging, you need to set up your blogging platform. We recommend using WordPress.org for your blog.

All you need to set up your blog is a domain name and web hosting!

A domain name is what people type to get to your website. It’s your website’s address on the internet. Think google.com or creativeintime.com

Web hosting is where your website files live. It’s like you’re a house for your website on the internet. Every website NEEDS web hosting.

We would recommend using Bluehost as your hosting provider as it is one of the oldest web hosting companies on the internet and is recommended by WordPress itself! Let us explain how to set up your Bluehost:

  1. Open up Bluehost in another tab
  1. Click the ‘Host Your Site’ button
  1. Choose your plan (we would recommend the basic plan if you only need one site and are a beginner)
  1. Enter your domain name
  1. Fill in required information to create your account
  1. Confirm how long you want your hosting to be
  1. Continue to payment
  1. And done!

To connect your Bluehost to WordPress, you need to click the tab called ‘marketplace’ and follow it to one-click installs. You need to click install on the WordPress product and select your site name and tagline, and then select your domain name.

Once WordPress has been installed, you’ll be notified by BlueHost, along with your installation details, username, password, and the option to login to your new WordPress website straight away. Go login to see what your website looks like so far.

When you have logged in, WordPress will ask if you need help setting up your website, you can select yes or no depending on if you need help. Regardless of your choice, once you are ready to launch your website, simply select ‘Bluehost’ from your navigation bar and click ‘launch’.

How To Write a Blog

Blogging is a great way to spread information and there are a few components which you need:

  • Title: Tell the reader WHAT they are going to read. Avoid clickbait or vague titles as these will cause your readers to bounce off your content, sending bad signals to Google.
  • Introduction: Introduce the blog, what is it about? What can readers expect to learn? Don’t be afraid to show your personality!
  • Background Information: Include/explain any information that may be needed before answering the question. Imagine your mum is reading your content, would she understand what you are talking about without any context? Use this section of a blog to explain the details as if this is the first time your reader is hearing about this topic (which it very well could be!).
  • Answer the Question: Answer the question clearly and honestly. You can voice an opinion however present the facts clearly and without bias.
  • Outro: Include links to any relevant products, to your shop, your social media accounts or to other related blogs. ALWAYS link to something. Explain what your blog/business is about and why people should keep up to date with your latest content.

We recommend blogging weekly to build up traction and get ranking on Google. Blogging is a sure-fire way to keep your website fresh and inviting, it keeps your website active and keeps people on your website for longer. A quality blog gives other sites a reason to link back to your site which can build trust.

Uploading Your Blog

Once you have written a blog, you need to get it live on your website. To write a blog post, click on ‘Posts’ and then ‘Add New’ on your WordPress dashboard.

You will see an editor area where you can write your first blog post!

You need to transfer your blog information onto WordPress and then there are many extras which you can add in such as:

  • Subheadings
  • Images
  • Bullet points
  • Links
  • Categories

And more!

Once you are done, you can click the preview button at the top right to see how your blog will look and then click publish when you are ready for it to go LIVE!

And just like that, you have a blog live! Keep posting and marketing your blogs to get readers and rank higher on Google.

With an active audience of 1.16 billion people, it is no shock that Instagram can be an amazing place for businesses to gain followers and traffic.

The potential reach of Instagram is only set to grow and did you know that 90% of Instagram users follow at least one business?

It isn’t only businesses marketing to consumers that can benefit though, over 36% of businesses use Instagram when researching new services and products.

Think of this as a cheat sheet to use for your business so that you can get your Instagram strategy up there with the best.

Setting Up An Instagram Account

If you already have an Instagram account, then you may not need this section but before you can set up a strategy, you need an Instagram Business account.

Best Instagram Marketing Strategies for 202

Now that you have your Instagram account set up, it is time to look into how you should be using your account and why.

1: Choose Your Goals

Before you start posting, you need to decide why you are posting. You can’t use your Instagram account effectively until you know what you are trying to do.

Instagram marketing isn’t one size fits all, it can mean different things to different businesses.

Do you want to:

  • Improve your brand awareness?
  • Drive traffic to your website?
  • Get new leads?
  • Sell products?
  • Establish brand authority?

You can even use multiple of these goals to build a strategy unique to you. If you are unsure of what your strategy goals are then get in touch now to see how we can help you.

2: Understand Your Audience

Once you decide your goals, you need to understand your audience on Instagram.

In the UK, Instagram statistics show that:

  • 30.36 million people in the UK use Instagram
  • Instagram reaches 60% of the online population in the UK
  • 25-34 year olds make up the largest user group
  • 76% of 15-25 year olds use Instagram
  • 42.5% of users are male and 57.5% are female

From these statistics, you may want to market towards these demographics however this does not mean you have to.

Whatever audience you want to market to, you need to make sure your content is speaking directly to your audience.

3: Optimise your Profile

The dreaded Instagram bio, with only 150 characters, it can seem impossible to make a good first impression and convey your businesses personality.

Those 150 characters really have their work cut out for them!

However, there is a shining light, you also have some other fields on your profile which allow you to showcase your brand such as:

  • Name: up to 30 characters
  • Username: up to 30 characters
  • Website: a clickable URL
  • Category: A business feature where you can tell people what your business is about without using precious bio characters
  • Contact information: A way to show people how to contact you

Make sure that all of these features are being utilised and showcase your brand in the best light. Many people will form opinions about your brand from your social media profiles.

4: Create Content

Instagram is a very visual platform and therefore your posts need to look the part.

You don’t need professional photographs or fancy cameras to take good pictures. Just make sure that they are clear, well-lit and in focus. If you are photographing a product then it needs to be well-composed with a simple backdrop reflecting the product.

If you are using other images such as infographics then make sure that your text is easy to read and not too small, that your colours are cohesive and that they are crisp.

Once you have some amazing images, you need to make suer that they are serving a purpose. You wouldn’t cook a 5* dinner if no one is hungry!

Your images need to tell a story, get people engaged or excite people. You need quality posts to make the most out of your images.

If you are stuck on what content to create then don’t fear! Check out this list of content ideas to get your started:

  • Videos
  • Reels
  • Behind-the-scenes posts
  • Infographics
  • Reviews
  • Quotes
  • Instructional posts
  • Company events
  • Share blog content
  • Industry news

5: Use Hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to increase your visibility and get your profile found by new users. When you use a hashtag, your post will appear on the page for that hashtag. People can also choose to follow hashtags which means you could shows up on users feeds even if they don’t follow you (yet!)

You are able to use up to 30 hashtags in a post however we would recommend using around 11 per post.

Make sure that your hashtags are relevant to your business and specific to your niche.

6: Use Instagram Stories

Video is quickly becoming a large focus of social media strategies and over half of business use stories.

A third of the most viewed stories on Instagram are posted by businesses!

Stories are a great way to be open and raw with your audience as they disappear after 24 hours. It allows you to post whatever content you want without it clogging up your social media profile.

There are a few uses for stories which we think all businesses should make use of:

  • Show behind-the-scenes clips of people at work
  • Answer FAQs
  • Link out to your website or useful resources
  • Tell a story
  • Talk to other people

Let’s Summarise Instagram Marketing

In your social media strategy, you should:

  • Use a business account
  • Choose your goals
  • Understand your audience
  • Optimise your profile
  • Create valuable content
  • Use hashtags
  • And use Instagram stories
